Talking about summer holidays, sun and beach in the province of Barcelona means referring to a real pole of attraction for Forum visitors: the town of Calella, in the region of Maresme.
Situated between the municipalities of Sant Pol de Mar and Pineda de Mar and with 18,625 inhabitants in 2010, Calella stands out for its undeniable tradition as a summer resort. Undoubtedly, much of its attraction lies in its three fine sandy beaches: Gran, GarbĂ and Les Roques. In any case, we must not lose sight of the fact that this town has a wide range of infrastructures and services, prepared to meet the needs of any visitor. It is worth mentioning a complete range of hotels and apartments for rent.
In any case, Calella deploys other attractions unrelated to its interesting sea front. One of them is the church of Santa Maria, a construction with baroque and neoclassical elements that originated in the 18th century, although it has some later extensions. Its imposing Baroque portal stands out from the original building. It is also advisable to visit the chapel of Sant Elm (16th century), currently consecrated to Sant Quirze and Sant Julita.
Other places that should not be left undiscovered are Casa Galceran (15th-16th centuries), Casa Giol (16th-17th centuries) and Casa Salvador Sivilla (16th century). The characteristic lighthouse of this recreational village, inaugurated in 1859, deserves a special mention.
Finally, it is advisable to devote part of your stay in the area to strolling quietly through the Dalmau municipal park. This beautiful enclosure has a landscaped plot, pergolas and a small forest.
From the Catalan capital, Calella can be reached by road (via the N-II), or by taking a Renfe suburban train on line R1 and getting off at the station of the same name.
