Festivals in Barcelona

Barcelona, the Catalan capital is known worldwide for its beauty, in Catalonia. While maintaining in the old town all the solera of a city that has been thriving for many years, also stands out for being a city of new construction in which the great avenues are intermingled with green areas. Barcelona has the highest ratio of green area per inhabitant in Europe.

This year in the capital of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, one of the most important jazz competitions in the country and very well known at European level, will be held again. 12 stages will simultaneously bring together the most important representatives of today's jazz scene, with stellar performances, among others, by Javier Limón, Bebo and Chucho Valdés, Sonny Rollins and Cassandra Wilson.

The highlight of the festival will be a performance by Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. This concert will be the only one that these two American jazz-man will give in Europe throughout this year. Another highlight is that the show recovers, electronic night and night of music, two spaces that had disappeared in previous editions. From electronic music applied to jazz, Rosa Passos and Milton Nascimento stand out.

Once again this year, European jazz fans have a space and a festival where we can enjoy this type of music originating in the United States and visit a city that will make visitors of all ages enjoy its solera.

41 Voll-Damm Festival International of Jazz

Barcelona is one of the centres of festival activities or, to put it more easily, Barcelona is home to many of the best and most complete festivals in Spain. We have already seen this in this blog with the presentation of Sonar or different activities at the CCCB or MACBA.

Today we will present another festival, also very important at international level and of great trajectory in the city of Barcelona, it is the 41 Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona, which will begin on October 28 and will end on December 6. We will be able to buy tickets through the Caixa Catalunya Tele-entry. Members of The Project/Amics del Jazz Club will have a 15% discount on all performances.

Thus, it will be saxophonist Wayne Shorter, member of the great Miles Davis quintet of the 60's who will inaugurate the festival on 28 October in the Auditori in front of his own quartet, undoubtedly the most powerful jazz machine of today.

Also playing will be Jimmy Cobb, the only survivor of the totem disc in the history of jazz, namely the masterful "Kind of blue". Cobb will perform at the Palau de la Música on November 7 with a band that, with characters like Wallace Roney on trumpet, tries to recreate the magic of the iconic recording.

The presentation of the festival cannot be complete without commenting on or mentioning Marcus Miller, the famous musician who composed the famous "Tutu" with Miles and who will perform at the Palau de la Música, which recovers the capital record of jazz history and will also feature the young prodigy Christian Scott on trumpet.

These three performances are just the first three concerts of the 41st Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona, performances that show us the great importance of the festival and that will encourage jazz fans throughout the peninsula and abroad.

So what better way to enjoy this beautiful musical style, whether for connoisseurs or beginners? The festival is becoming more and more important at an international level and if not ask those who last year saw Woody Allen's group live, quite a spectacle.
